Thomas Hardy
Thomas Hardy (1840–1928) was an English novelist and poet, best known for his tragic and deeply human stories like "Tess of the d'Urbervilles" and "Jude the Obscure." His works often explore themes of fate, social constraints, and the struggles of ordinary people against an indifferent universe.
The past is past, and though it was a time of much that was good, it is gone as completely as the days when the Romans occupied these hills. Nothing remains of it but the blurred and broken relics we call history, which are as much fable as fact.
